About the HRSMC

PhD training and research cooperation

The Holland Research School of Molecular Chemistry is a consortium of three Dutch Universities: the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the VU University Amsterdam (VU) and Leiden University (UL). It's main mission is to provide an extensive training programme for PhD students in chemistry. The HRSMC has been approved by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

The HRSMC research school creates the conditions for a successful collaboration between the participating research groups and offers an extensive training programme for the PhD students in inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry, crystallography and mass spectrometry.

HRSMC was founded in 1994 and has been re-accredited three times by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). We are now in the fourth period 2012-2018.

The HRSMC is legally represented by the University of Amsterdam (the so-called 'penvoerder').

International cooperation

A fruitful collaboration exists between the HRSMC and the Westfälische Wilhelms Universität Münster as a result of the former  International Research Training Group (IRTG) Generation of Supramolecular Functional Cavities - Container Molecules, Macrocycles and Related Compounds. This IRTG promoted and supported the exchange of guest lecturers and PhD students, and the organisation of joint courses and summer schools. The IRTG programme continued until 2011.
