Welcome to the Holland Research School of Molecular Chemistry

The HRSMC is a cooperation between research groups of the van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) of the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA), the Leiden Institute of Chemistry (LIC) ), Leiden Observatory (LO) and the Leiden Institute of Physics (LION) of the Universiteit Leiden (UL), and the Institute for Electrons and Molecular Structure (EMS) of the department of chemistry of the Vrije Universiteit (VU).
The research school was founded in 1994 and has been twice re-accredited by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). We are now in the third period 2005-2011. The research takesplace in the heart of chemistry and focuses on the physical, chemical and biological properties of small to moderately sized molecules in relation to their electronic and spatial structures.

The school creates the conditions for a successful collaboration between the research groups and offers an extensive training programme for the PhD students in inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry, crystallography and mass spectrometry. A fruitful collaboration exists between the HRSMC and the Westfälische Wilhelms Universität Münster and is expressed in the International Research Training Group (IRTG) "Generation of Supramolecular Functional Cavities - Container Molecules, Macrocycles and Related Compounds". This IRTG promotes and supports the exchange of guest lecturers and PhD students, and the organisation of joint courses and summer schools. This program has been approved by DFG and NWO in 2006/2007 and will continue until 2011.
