The HRSMC offers PhD students several courses and schools to support their research and to build their network. A research school needs to administer the credit point administration for all PhD students for the courses they followed. The HRSMC uses the following procedure:
1] In the first six months of their PhD appointment, a copy of the Education & Training Program (ETP) according to the guidelines of the UvA, VU or UL institute should be sent to Ineke Weijer of the HRSMC office.
2] Some months prior to the defence date, the Credit Point Administration form (See Below) needs to be filled out to give the HRSMC office an actual update of the education followed. This form should be sent to Ineke Weijer of the HRSMC office. The management of the school presents a certificate to those PhD students, who have fulfilled the requirements for the HRSMC PhD certificate (depicted below). This certificate is one of the criteria to apply for the Dick Stufkens prize - see remarks.
Please note that there is a document for the annual assessment meeting:
This is a reminder during this annual meeting to discuss the educational activities of the HRSMC and other aspects of our research school like the HRSMC certificate and Dick Stufkens prize for best thesis. (See Below)

Remarks:
• There is the Annual Dick Stufkens PhD prize for the best thesis and having the HRSMC certificate is one of the criteria for application. The prize consists of a certificate and 1,000 euros cash. For more information about the prize, the criteria and how to apply, click here.
• Every PhD needs to follow at least one HRSMC course and one HRSMC school for the HRSMC certificate. If there is no HRSMC school or course that combines well with the research project of the PhD student, external courses which are approved by your supervisor can be followed instead.
• An external course of one week is 3 ECTS, a course of two weeks 6 ECTS. However, if the organisation of this course has chosen for a different (higher or lower) validation, this validation is applicable for the HRSMC credit point administration.
• The HRSMC will help PhD students from other universities e.g. to follow the course didactics at the UvA. A course on didactics is not obligatory for a HRSMC certificate.
• A colloquium is a presentation, which a PhD gives at the beginning (normally after 3-6 months). A PhD student presents his/her research plans and gives a general background of the project. This colloquium can be based on the paper.
• A paper should not be confused with a scientific article. A paper is document, which a PhD student normally makes at the beginning of his/her research. This paper includes items like:
- The general background of the research project
- The plans a PhD student has for the first years of his/her research project.
• 18 points is a minimum and can, of course, be exceeded.
