Event details of HRSMC PhD Workshop
Date
4 March 2026

The workshop focuses on two central themes: exploring opportunities in scientific entrepreneurship and addressing key aspects of academic well‑being. The programme offers practical perspectives and discussions to help researchers navigate both career development and the challenges of academic work.

The programme begins with an interesting opening lecture by Prof. Jan van Maarseveen on popular science “How to Build Molecular Rings Around Threads.” followed by a session from Valentin Geiger“Beyond Publication: The Path from Research to Startups.” The following round focuses on academic well‑being, with a talk from Margarita Lourido Ferreira “Building Supportive Supervision Relationships,” and it concludes with a session from Mariska Rol “Navigating Academic Pressure.”
All sessions will take place in rooms BM.1.33 and DM.1.09 in the Gorlaeus Building (Einsteinweg 55, 2333 CC Leiden).

We’ll wrap up the day with drinks from 17:15 to 18:15.
The workshop is open to all PhD students, postdocs and HRSMC Class of Excellence students. All costs are covered.

We sincerely hope to see you there!
